    History Of The Pipe Track

The pipe track is one of the oldest hiking routes all the way to the top, which dates back to 1887. It was made to run below a series of ranges, which are popularly called as the twelve apostles.

It was built to bring water from the Disa George, the back of the Table Mountain to the Molteno reservoir in Oranjezicht.

It runs through the Woodheat tunnel and Slangolie ravine. Today it transports water from the top of the Table Mountain to the reservoirs of the Cape Town city. The route is parallel to the huge water pipes running under the western slopes.
